It is an association of Members who may be both Producers (those who offer products and services) and Consumers (those who use products and services) who collaborate by sharing information, sharing profits, and sharing discounts because of the group's buying power.
What are some examples of CoOps?
Credit Unions, Farming, Insurance, Health, Food, Worker's, Housing, Hardware Stores, and so much more. There are more than 1 Billion members of CoOps worldwide; doing over $1.6 Trillion in revenue; and in the US alone there are 30,000+CoOps with over $25 Billion in jobs and $500 Billion in revenue!
What is a Member and What is a Class?
CoOps have different "classes" of Members. "Basic Members", join for FREE and use the CoOp's products and services, but ARE NOT owners of the CoOp. "Share Members" pay a one-time fee of $240; use the products and services; share in the profits; and ARE the owners of the CoOp. It is to your advantage to be a Share Member.
What is the difference in a Basic Member and a $97 Basic Member?
Basic Members are FREE. If you choose to pay a xone= time Discount Fee of $97, you get a discount on the cost of products and services on the platform. This discount will save you hundreds or thousands if you use the platform. The best discounts and profit share comes from being a Share Member.
Why should I be a Share Member?
Here are 3 great reasons: 1) you get the deepest discounts on products and services; Share Members pay a one-time Share Fee of $240 which is easily offset by profit share if you use the platform, 2) you are one of the owners of the CoOp, and 3) you share in the profits of the CoOp.
Example: John and Mary are both Share Members. John earns 100 Patronage Points this month and Mary earns 200. Mary will receive twice as much profit share (Patronage Refund) as John. Some Share Members have already earned three times (3X) their Share Fee in less than six months.
What are Patronage Points?
Think "air miles!" Each time you click on a section of the platform, like "Find A Project" or "Collaborative Tools" you earn Patronage Points. You accumulate points monthly and annually. If you are a Share Member this month and you have Patronage Points, you share in the profits earned by the platform (called a Patronage Refund). Yes, Share Members are actually paid to use the platform!
What is a Patronage Refund?
A Patronage Refund is a profit share paid only to Share Members monthly and annually based on each Member's Patronage Points (activity) from using the platform. Yes you are actually paid to use the platform!
Example: John, Mary, and Sam are all Members. John and Mary are Share Members and Sam is a Basic Member. John has 100 Patronage Points, Mary has 200, and Sam has 250. Mary will earn twice as much as John, but Sam will earn $0 because he is not a Share Member. Sam can become a Share Member anytime, by paying the $240 one-time Share Fee, and then start earning Patronage Refunds that month. All points earned "for the year" are not lost when you upgrade.
What are Dues?
Dues, if any, cover the cost of operating the CoOp. Currently, there are no dues at Collaborate CoOp. However, if the Share Members vote for dues, then they could be charged in the future to any or all Member classes.
